How Fabrique works Scrum: Fast, Furious & Effective

Fast, furious and effective.

Get Agile!

We like making things. Things that work. Things that are relevant. That’s why we love Scrum. Scrum is a project approach where everybody, creators and clients alike, comes together to create great things fast.

All at the same time.

Scrum is a project approach in which everybody works in parallel. So, with Scrum, the strategy, design, HTML, CMS and copy are tackled at the same time instead of one after the other. You do need to make sure that your project is well prepared and well orchestrated, but then the benefits are enormous. You can get started more quickly, because you can defer discussions about features until they’re relevant. Everything that the scrum team creates is immediately tangible and concrete, which makes decisions easy. It’s clear straight away if a solution will be fruitful, or just too complex. And above all, the scrum team regulates itself; the team is more motivated and requires less project management.

Get Agile

Fabrique has many years’ experience with Scrum. We have successfully implemented it for customers across various industries; from large to small projects, from e-commerce to non-profit. We recorded our experiences in the scrum manual Get Agile!, a handy book with tips & tricks for the novice as well as the advanced scrummer.

How it works.

Perhaps you are used to agreeing exactly what you are going to deliver, but with Scrum you agree on which goals you want to achieve. Then you get a motivated team together, set a timeframe, and work like stink to achieve those goals. In other words, it is not exactly clear at the start what you will be delivering at the end. It's the difference between sitting at the starting point for ages to get the aim just right, before finally giving your wagon a hard shove, and just getting into the wagon and riding in it until you get to a nice place.

For this to go well we arrange that the whole team is completely aware of the goals, and make sure that those goals are always visible. How? By hanging everything on the wall: the goals, the deadlines, the progress, the agreements that we made together, the designs. Everything is on the wall so that everyone is aware of the latest developments all the time.

We also make sure that the team is able to make the right decisions quickly by having a ‘product owner’ close by. The product owner is the representative of the client: a live design brief and an inspiring source of information that we can turn to when it comes to goals and priorities.

Is Scrum always the way to go?

Scrum is particularly useful for larger projects, where the goal is far away and the road can change just like that. Scrum works best when a team of about six people is able to consistently work on the same project. If the project is too small or if the team can’t all be there to work on it at the same time, it’s less efficient.

But the most important thing for Scrum is that there is a product owner with the mandate to make decisions during the process. If we can’t find anybody who can free up the time for that, who understands the company well enough or who has sufficient mandate, we prefer to start a classic project.
